What is Karaoke?

Well simply put it is FUN!

Remember the little bouncing ball that bounced across the TV screen to the songs on the children's shows when you were little?
Well if you can do that you can do karaoke!

Karaoke is an audience participation form of entertainment. The audience member that would like to sing turns in his name and a song to sing, The karaoke host will call his/her name to come up to the performance area to sing when its their turn. The host will play a special CD that has the music and background vocals to the song and the lead lyrics will appear on a teleprompter.

The singer then follows the teleprompter and sings the lead to the song. You instantly become the STAR ! At least for the length of the song, anyway!

WARNING : KARAOKE IS HABIT FORMING !

Karaoke Etiquette

It is very important that everyone lives by the same set of guidelines in order to make it FUN and Fair for everyone involved.

*Please remember that karaoke tracks are professional recreations of the original song. They are NOT the original artist and may vary slightly from the recording by the artist And of course some karaoke versions we have are closer than others... Just remember we have no control over what is recorded on the disc.

* DO NOT BOO OR JEER OR MAKE FUN OF ANYONE!!

*ALWAYS CLAP FOR EVERYONE. Its hard to get up in front of a bunch of people and sing and everyone deserves a BIG hand for trying!

* Never run up to the performance are to sing unless your name is called. Do not invite yourself to sing with other singers. As fun as it is EVERYONE deserves their chance in the spotlight alone.

* Be sure to hold the microphone as close to your mouth as possible... The 2 finger rule works well. Hold the mic a 2 finger width away form your mouth. Do not hold the mic at your chest or below your chin, and do not cover the mic up with your hand. Sing directly into the mic not over the top of it. You get up there to sing and be heard so help us out by getting the mic to the best spot to pick up your voice.... J

* Do not use different names to get more turns in a rotation. This could cause you to be taken out of the rotation completely. Do not put your name down with several people to sing either, this will cause you to loose turns as well.

* Do not take up a bunch of turns in the rotation with duets and group songs. Most hosts will not allow more than one turn for each singer in a rotation and duets count as a turn for BOTH singers in most cases. We personally count duets as a turn for the singer listed on the request slip first, until we get busier. On busy nights duets are counted as a turn for both singers.

We try very hard not to allow repeated duets with the same singer/singers to pop up in a rotation. But there are times that are out of our control. (For example when a singers ask someone to sing with him/her and the partners name is not on the request slip.) We do not encourage this from anyone. It causes a lot of problems sometimes.. Each situation is handled differently. We hope that each person will have enough respect for everyone else that this will not happen. J

Remember there are people waiting patiently for their turns as well, and it gets to be annoying when they keep seeing the same faces up there over and over again and they still have not sang their turn .

*Try not to bring your drinks to the performance area. The equipment is VERY expensive and if you spill your drink into the equipment not only will the show be over for the evening , you will have a VERY LARGE replacement/repair bill coming your way. And that is no fun.

** TIP YOUR KJ's!! They have a hard job up there keeping everyone and everything adjusted as well as keeping all the song requests in order. AND trying to keep everyone happy.... Show them you appreciate their efforts....J
